I have been reviewing films all my life, semi-professionally in the past and for the past 10 or 12 years on imdb and more recently in letterboxd and facebook. The idea of this blog is to get as many of those reviews gathered together in one place. I have had a great deal of support and encouragement from a lot of people throughout the world and I hope that continues. Now for the ratings. **** = not to be missed. *** = highly recommended. ** = recommended. * = of interest and no stars = avoid..

ART HISTORY no stars
"Art History" isn't about art history. It's a kind of
'home-movie-porn-movie' movie in which the director Joe Swanberg plays
the director of a porn movie with feelings for, (in lust with?), his
leading actress played by the actress/director Josephine Decker of
"Madeline's Madeline" fame. The problem is her leading man, Kent
Osborne, is also in lust with her and since all three wrote the
screenplay it feels very voyeuristic indeed. It's also like nothing one
would want to pay money to see, a narcissistic project about
narcissistic people. It's well enough made for what it is but it's not
in the least bit erotic despite the copious nudity. In fact, it's enough
to put you off sex entirely or, as the old gag has it, 'I'd rather have
a cup of tea'.
