"The Presidio" is a slightly better-than-average San Francisco set murder yarn from minor cult director Peter Hyams that makes good use of its familiar locations though its familiar plot could do with a boost every now and then. Of course, anything with a scenery-chewing Sean Connery in the lead gets a brownie point from me. He's a colonel in the military police who has to team up with a cocky young cop, (Mark Hamon), who is dating his daughter, (Meg Ryan), after one of his staff is gunned down in what looks like a botched robbery. Unfortunately, despite being shot in widescreen, it has the feel of a made-for-tv movie and is just the kind of film that if watched on a wet afternoon just might take your mind off the weather. A couple of excellent chase scenes aside it's not one of Hyams' better movies.I have been reviewing films all my life, semi-professionally in the past and for the past 10 or 12 years on imdb and more recently in letterboxd and facebook. The idea of this blog is to get as many of those reviews gathered together in one place. I have had a great deal of support and encouragement from a lot of people throughout the world and I hope that continues. Now for the ratings. **** = not to be missed. *** = highly recommended. ** = recommended. * = of interest and no stars = avoid..
